The Red Deer Community Power of One Event is held in Red Deer, Alberta, each year with the joint goals of commemorating the International Day For Racial Discrimination while working toward a better future for those who are affected by issues related to racism.

Technical Setup

This event was captured using two cameras - One of them was rigged to a large battery on a tripod, and one on a gimbal. The stationary rig was pointed at stage and allowed me to never miss a moment from the speakers, while the gimbal gave me the flexibility to move around and capture moments from various angles.

I used a powerful COB LED light to give our subjects some backlight and separate them from the wall behind the stage. This, paired with a low camera angle, ensured that the speakers looked authoritative. The event had large sky lights, so during the night time portions of the event I turned up the LED and reflected it off the white ceiling to provide more ambient light around the stage.
